Mrs. Ebenezer GOSS, with her husband and children, were from Plymouth, Conn., arriving in Randolph, Portage Co, OH in 1804. Her daughter, Polly, married Abisha CHAPMAN and soon after they moved away. Her son, David, married Hannah RYDER and their home was a place of refuge for the widows and orphans. Aunt Hannah was a good cook and always had plenty on the table to eat. Notes for BEDER GOSS:
They had 4 children, one son and three dau (during 1821 - 1829) before Beder deserted or was thrown out of the house ca 1830. In 1831 Beder sued Fildelia's then "live in companion" for various damages. In 1835 Fildelia sued Beder for various and sundry damages "for goods she had given to Beder" and for "support for minor children of the defendant". They, Beder and Fildelia, must have had a very interesting relationship! In spite of all this "tabloid type" background RE: Beder/Fildelia and their relationship, you may be interested to know there is a proved Mayflower Lineage (down from WILLIAM WHITE) for their descendants!!

Cyrus Goss, an early school teacher of Parke Co was b. in Portage Co Ohio In 1818. At the age of 21 years he started to Parke Co arriving herein 1830, where he resided until his death in Sept 1888 in his 71st year. Immediately after his arrival, he began teaching subscription or pay schools, as there were no free schools here at that time. In 1841 he was marr. to Eliz. Bulion. They went to housekeeping in a part of the old Stryker house in Rockville and he taught school in the old brick seminary.

Simon Perkins engaged in farming and owned 127 acres in Randolph Township. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and G. A. R., and was a F. & A. M. He and his wife were members of the Methodist Church. He had filled the office of Trustee several years. In the war of the Rebellion, Simon was commissioned Second Lieutenant of an infantry company (Randolph Guard), May 11, 1861, and December 14, following, was commissioned Captain of the same company, but so many of this company enlisted into the United States Regular Army that it was disbanded. Simon was next elected Captain of Company G, Third Regiment Ohio Militia, in Portage County, July 4, 1863; then he joined the United States service as Recruiting Lieutenant, January 13, 1865; was mustered out as Captain of Company H, One Hundred and Eighty-fourth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, February 21, 1865.
